TRANSPORTATION in Vietnam

In general, I have experienced Vietnam as THE “dream motorcycle country” of a lot of travellers. It’s unbelievable how many motorcyclists you can see there. Maybe there is a new trend (especially for men) to discover Vietnam on a motorcycle? 🙂

If a motorcycle ride or a car purchase is not interesting, of course there is also public transport available in Vietnam. The infrastructure is great and (almost) everywhere are buses and even trains run very cheaply.

Here you can see myself in one of the night buses. The buses are in very different price range, from economy to luxury variants with curtains and televisions. Fancy, fancy! I wanted to travel spontaneously to another place on this day day and there were no tickets for the cheap bus available, so I decided to buy the more expensive version. It was a great experience in a fancy bus.

I would recommend to buy the tickets for public transport on site in the small travel agencies, where you can negotiate the prices pretty well. Online I was mostly too late, a day before or even on the same day, there were no more tickets available. If you watch early enough, the website https://12go.asia/en is recommended.

In general, when buying tickets, I would advise going to local offices (http://www.sinhtourist.com) which are often centrally located. If you are already in a place, it is recommended to install the app “Grab” to get from A to B by grab -taxi. If something goes wrong, e.g. the driver does not pick you up, there is great customer service that can be contacted. With the code “digrab” all trips are available for half the price.

In the towns themselves, many travelers ride scooters, but that’s a matter of taste. Some people are afraid of accidents and try to avoid riding scooters.

Vietnam is a very long country and the distances are often underestimated. Airfares are often impressively low and flying is often a quick and convenient alternative.
