Organizational matters when traveling –Flights, insurance etc.
Here you will find a quick summary of questions and answers about the organization of the trip.
WHERE CAN I BOOK MY FLIGHTS?
Popular search engines are Skyscanner, Momondo or Google Flights. It’s best to be as flexible as possible about the date and location. With Skyscanner you can search for a country instead of a city and choose the cheapest month instead of a specific day. Flexibility definitely pays off when searching for a flight. If you are quite spontaneous, you could also choose Germany and the cheapest month as your departure location and then see which arrival location seems interesting to you.
SHOULD I BOOK AN Open Return Ticket?
I’m glad I didn’t do it. The ticket definitely restricts and is often even more expensive than single flights. If you want to be on the road for longer and you are not set on a date when you have to be back home, I would advise not to book an open return ticket. It’s best to try to stay as flexible as possible. Especially when traveling, everything is not always predictable, maybe you will get to know people on the way and change your plans. Who knows when and how it goes where 😉
SHOULD I START ON MY OWN OR WITH SomEONE ELSE?
It depends on your trip and your person. If you want to go on vacation for 1-2 weeks, it is of course nice to go with someone. If you are planning a long-term trip and would like to work in between, I recommend traveling alone. I know it takes courage, but I think you can definitely grow with it. You can learn a lot about yourself and become more open to new things. I am sure that you will find many friends along the way.
How can this be regulated with health insurance?
I am insured with Hanse-Merkur abroad. The german insurance is popular not only with me, but with many travelers and has really made a name for itself in recent years. I particularly like that the insurance can be extended up to 5 years and also covers if employment is started abroad. In addition, you can cancel the day and if you pay too much fees, you will get everything reimbursed. Great service, great! If you are looking for an international one, I would recommend the insurance True Traveller!
What needs to be considered with the vaccinations?
My tip is to start vaccinations as early as possible. For example, vaccination against rabies requires several vaccinations at different intervals. The best thing to do is to find out from a tropical doctor which vaccination is important for which country. The Federal Foreign Office also gives a rough idea. When I noticed that my trip was going to be a little longer than I thought, I was also vaccinated against yellow fever, since in some countries it is compulsory to enter the country.
Where can I book my accommodation?
It depends on the type of travel and accommodation I choose. I usually book hostels and hotels through Booking or Hostelworld. I can recommend Agoda in Asia, where the website is often the cheapest. All three sites also have apps that you can find on your smartphone. If I am traveling with friends and we want to share private accommodation, we occasionally book through AirBnb. In Portugal e.g. the four of us got an entire apartment at a great price. Since I am a partner there, you can get 30 euros for free on the website when you make your first booking with this link.

What kind of visa do i need?
It depends on the country you want to travel to. In some countries it is necessary to make an application beforehand, especially if you want to work there. As tourists, sometimes you are lucky enough to be able to use our passport to enter many countries without a special visa. The Federal Foreign Office also helps here, I always use their website for research before I travel to a new country. Planning something in advance and getting to know the situation on site is important, but I would try not to be intimidated by all the safety tips and travel warnings. Otherwise I would probably never have flown to the Philippines.
