Canada

Canada

Canada is a country that has surprised me like no other. Those who know me well know how much I love tropical temperatures,  beaches and the ocean. I am the person who basically gets cold first in a group and in Germany’s winter also likes to wear two winter coats on top of each other ;). In Canada, I experienced temperatures of minus 20 degrees for the first time in my life and worked in a ski resort. Anyway, I fell in love with the country.

Vancouver

Vancouver is located on the west coast of Canada and offers a unique backdrop, the city is located between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It has several beaches where wonderful sunsets can be observed. However, the beaches are not comparable to those in the tropics, but well, as travellers say “beach is beach”.

The summer in Vancouver is amazing, there are numerous events and parades. Every week there are free outdoor cinema performances, yoga classes and “drum circles” on the beach. I had the feeling that the people in the city were very active and enthusiastic about sports. A new hike is planned every weekend.

Toronto

Toronto is a large metropolis in Canada, the city is often referred to as the “Canadian New York”. You can meet people from all over the world. Compared to Vancouver, there are more skyscrapers and the city looks very modern and large. Niagara Falls are just a two-hour drive away. This natural spectacle consists of three waterfalls and is really worth seeing. It was an indescribable feeling for me to stand in front of it and admire it. The water shoots out with so much pressure that the water drops can be caught even from a huge distance. Tip: In terms of time, it is advisable to be at the waterfalls at sunset. It is wonderful to look at and as soon as it gets dark there is a light show that makes the waterfalls look even more spectacular.

Montreal And Quebec

Montreal and Quebec are two very beautiful cities that could hardly be more different from Vancouver and Toronto. After spending a little more time in the western part of Canada, it was very unusual for me to hear little or no English. The cities themselves also look much more European and you feel like being in France. There are cobblestone streets, artists’ quarters and the cities are very historic in colonial style. In winter it can get minus 40 degrees in Montreal. When I was there in April, the snow was still so high that it could only be laid on a bench in the park. 🙂

As a tip: In different shopping centers there are free samples of maple syrup on a stick. This is something really Canadian and you should definitely try it.

THE Rocky Mountains

The Rocky Mountains are the best known and most popular destination in Canada. There you can admire not only mountains, but also glaciers, forests, waterfalls and lakes. The nature is picturesque and invites you to go on long hikes. The crystal clear turquoise lakes really fascinated me. I wish I could have seen a wild bear. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do so on numerous hikes yet.
