… are the countries that I have traveled to so far. I am currently in Southeast Asia again.
Would you also like to immerse yourself in a new everyday life in a foreign country?
From my own experience, I know that it takes courage to take the step abroad. So many questions to ask yourself what could happen if …
I would be happy if I can inspire you to travel the world.
FAQ ABOUT ME AND TRAVELING
Since people often asked me the same three questions, I decided to answer them here.
Are you still traveling for so long?
I left Germany in September 2015. Back in 2015 I never expected for how long I would be on the road. After my apprenticeship, work and studies, I thought about “breaking out” of the 9-5 routine… And spontaneously another country came along and another country and another country …
I’m not from a millionaire family, nor have I won the lottery (hahaha it would be nice). In the beginning I had a few savings and then I also worked abroad. So it is more like “traveling and working” than just traveling. Many people think I’m jumping from one pool party to the next and lying on the beach in the meantime. Unfortunately no, maybe I should have posted photos from my work haha. In general, I was able to combine fun and work well through cool job opportunities.
Yes, as much as I like traveling. But when you travel, you learn to appreciate how important friends and family are at home. These cannot be replaced by any great beach, sunset or jungle hikes.
It is important to me to keep in touch with friends and family on a regular basis (thanks to Whats App and Skype :)). I’m really looking forward to give everyone a hug personally.
I just realized that the world is sooooo big and there is soooo much to see. Adventures await you everywhere, just waiting to be discovered. So many new customs, landscapes, religions, food (very important hahaha) and and and!
I just find it exciting how different people live. How money is not always everything. How much kindness, helpfulness and charity are sometimes shown to you. I’ve been moved to tears so many times, really. During my travels I met so many great people and made friends all over the world, I am incredibly grateful for that!
But of course I’m also enthusiastic about nature. The outback in Australia, the Niagara waterfalls in the United States / Canada, rainforests in Costa Rica, beaches in Hawaii and Fiji, lagoons in the Philippines, crystal-clear lakes and mountains in Canada, deserts in Colombia, crystal-clear water in Thailand, the coastal sections in California. The world can be so beautiful that sometimes the right words to describe it are missing!
And suddenly you are so active and would like to try everything out at once. The sun smiles at you and the day begins. I started learning surfing in Bali and then continued in Costa Rica and California (unfortunately still not a professional hahahahaha). I was wakeboarding for the first time in Nicaragua, it was so much fun. I used to think that hiking was for seniors. Nowadays I just love to walk around and discover. Preferably in the jungle, connected to the rainforest, waterfalls and beach …
Canada made me learn to ski and snowboard. I lived there in a super nice ski resort for half a year. Although I don’t really like winter at all, especially not the cold. If someone had told me that beforehand, I probably wouldn’t have believed a word. But there is just something else. This atmosphere, this vibe! You just get carried away and are openminded to new things. I tried to eat pineapple and seafood in the past, thought “I don’t like it” and never touched it again. When traveling, I gave both a chance again and these days I eat it as my new favorite food almost every day 🙂
But of course not everything is always rosy when traveling, I don’t want to say this. For me, finding a room in Vancouver turned out to be a “little disaster”, in some cities it is really hard to find a job, I hardly understood the Australian accent at the beginning, a street dog bit my leg at the border crossing in Honduras, in Cambodia stole 250 euros from my backpack and and and. The fact is that you are faced with completely different challenges abroad. But through the unknown situations you test yourself and can learn a lot …
What also fascinates me is the feeling of freedom. Simply decide for yourself what to do. Staying in a place you like and otherwise just moving on. The place of residence can become Bangkok, Sydney, Auckland or New York … Especially if you stay longer in places, insights are opened that a tourist would never get. And you really immerse yourself in the culture. This can change the whole world view if you can understand the background of people’s behavior much better.
The experiences while traveling are sometimes simply fascinating. These moments are incredibly formative and nobody can take them away.
“Just get out” from the hometown, the job, which is maybe only average, the 9-5 working hours, looking forward to the weekend and the annual vacation. And to think outside the box, even if society would like to dictate “what to do at what age”.
Everyone knows whether and when is the best time for such a trip. But if it is your dream, do not wait for others to realize it. It is incredible how quickly and intimately contacts and friendships can develop while traveling. Just because you’re going solo doesn’t mean you’re alone unless you want to.
Maybe I can inspire one or the other to travel. I could talk about it for hours (and I still have some stories in store hehe). I know that it takes courage. If you have any questions, I’m happy to be there.
